Pan Am Railways MEC 31933 boxcar

Similar to the one sighted between Kennard and Blair, Nebraska, this is Pan Am Railways MEC 31933 boxcar at Rigby Yard in South Portland, Maine. Photo by Wikipedia User BMRR. Used under Creative Commons License.

On my way home yesterday [between Kennard and Blair] I saw a blue, Pan Am (like the former airline) boxcar. Turns out there is a Pan Am Railway in the Northeast, made up of the Maine Central, the Boston & Maine and the Delaware and Hudson railways. Same exact color and logo as the airplanes. The rights to the logo and name were purchased when the airline went under, years ago.

Now I want a model one – saw a few on ebay.

There is a Wikipedia page about Pan Am Railways. It is just one of those things that you wouldn’t know to research if you didn’t know it existed. You’ll never know what you may find on your commute!
